Philippe Coutinho dreams of a move back to Liverpool, according to reports. The Reds have a clear stance on the possibility.
This comes from Sport. They say Philippe Coutinho has a ‘big dream’ – a move back to Liverpool.
The Brazilian will likely leave Barcelona this summer, though potentially only on loan. There’s a small chance he remains in Catalonia but it appears his time there is coming to an end.
And if Coutinho could choose where he goes, it’s Liverpool.
That’s hardly a great surprise. The best football of his career came at Anfield, where he grew his reputation enough to justify a £142m move to Barcelona.
Nothing since has come close to replicating that kind of form, though, and now Coutinho isn’t the same player. And that goes a long way to explaining Liverpool’s stance.
Sport say the door to Liverpool is closed to Coutinho. There are too many forwards already at the club and they don’t want to spend to bring their ex-player back.
It seems Coutinho’s best chance of moving away now lies with Internazionale – the club he left for Liverpool.
Coutinho dreams of Liverpool move
No big shocks here, then. Coutinho’s wages would be pretty sizeable for a player who represents something of a risk for any new club.
If we could guarantee the same 2017 Coutinho back at Liverpool? We’d do it in a heartbeat as he was out of this world towards the end of his time here.
But we haven’t actually seen that player since and at 29, Coutinho is very unlikely to rediscover that kind of form. We’d happily take a chance on him on a much lower contract than he’s currently on, though.
For one, we do see benefits in bringing him back. But it would have to make sense financially and we’re just not sure it can.
