Real Sociedad will take a big risk on an Alexander Isak sale, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the striker.
This comes from Fabrizio Romano talking on the Don Robbie YouTube channel. The journalist says Real Sociedad are open to an Alexander Isak sale – just not quite yet.
“Yes, he has some chances, but I am told that Real Sociedad want to keep him this summer and sell him in 2022 because they’re convinced he can show some skills and add to his value in one year,” said Romano.
“It won’t be easy because some clubs are interested, but it will be for over €50m or €60m.”
The Noticias de Gipuzkoa report mentions Isak has a release clause of around £60m. That doesn’t entirely mesh with what Romano is saying and we can only imagine they intend to tie him down to a new contract with a high clause.
Sociedad take risk on Isak sale
Assuming they are planning to move that clause, Sociedad are taking a big risk here. They expect his price and standing to rise – but that doesn’t always happen.
And interest in Isak is at an all-time high. He’s coming off the back of a wonderful La Liga season in which he scored 17 goals. Now the 21-year-old is impressing at Euro 2020.
Sociedad appear to believe interest will grow even further, though. And to be fair, they’re probably right.
Isak should be even better next year, given his age and the extra experience Euro 2020 will bring. But it’s still a risk – and injury or poor form could push that price down.
The only guarantee here is that Isak won’t remain at Sociedad for many more years. If Liverpool truly do want him, the chance is going to be there to get him.
Just maybe not this summer.
