Trent Alexander-Arnold is ‘on course’ to return for pre-season, according to reports. The Liverpool star is currently recovering from injury.
This comes from the Athletic. They claim that Trent Alexander-Arnold should be ready for Liverpool in pre-season.
The right-back missed Euro 2020 through injury, of course, after picking up an issue in a warm-up game. He’s now working his way back to fitness and, apparently, is on course to make pre-season.
That will be a huge relief for Liverpool. Alexander-Arnold is far from the only injury defender at the club, after all, and losing him for the start of the season would be a big blow.
In fact, simply having him low on fitness by that point would be a struggle for the team. Especially after reports that Neco Williams wants to leave – Alexander-Arnold may well be the club’s only right-back.
But it sounds as though Liverpool won’t actually suffer at all from his injury. He’ll be ready for pre-season next month and the Reds can move forward with him as normal.
Alexander-Arnold to make pre-season
As we mentioned, he’s not the only concern. We don’t believe Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez or Joel Matip will be ready to go when pre-season does roll around.
Liverpool will have to play a waiting game with them. Hopefully one of them can start the season okay alongside Ibrahima Konate, but it feels unrealistic to expect any of them at their best.
The other problem with pre-season is that many stars won’t be there. Anyone at the Euros or Copa America will need extra time off, shortening their break ahead of next season.
It’s why Jurgen Klopp may want to lean into certain players who remained at home this summer. Thankfully for Liverpool, Alexander-Arnold is one of those. That should be a real boost to kick off the new campaign.
