Liverpool will sell a host of players this summer. Jürgen Klopp has plenty of fringe players he could do without and Michael Edwards needs to raise funds for transfers. According to The Athletic, Liverpool will sell Nat Phillips for a fee of £15m.
Liverpool centre back roster
Liverpool lost every senior centre back to injury last season.
The Reds were forced to call up players from the U23s and play first team regulars out of position.
Eventually Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak were brought in though the former is yet to make an appearance and the latter’s loan deal has expired.
In recent weeks Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig.
As a result the first team boasts Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Joel Matip, Nat Phillips and Ben Davies as centre back options.
Liverpool set Nat Phillips fee at £15m
This summer will see at least one centre back leave the club.
According to Goal there is growing interest in the Reds’ Bolton Baresi.
The Athletic has now reported that Liverpool would reluctantly sell Nat Phillips for a fee of £15m.
This is because Jürgen Klopp would be happy to keep the player around but he understands why the centre back would want to leave to pursue more first team minutes.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool selling Nat Phillips appears inevitable.
He really impressed last season, interest is understandable as a result.
The Bolton Baresi will be a star performer for someone in the Premier League next season, he just can’t oust Virgil van Dijk.
Wherever he ends up we will wish him well.
Furthermore, we could cash in £15m then sign Ozan Kabak for less money. Der Westen has claimed Schalke will accept an offer well below the original £18m; could we be in for a Michael Edwards masterclass?
