Liverpool reportedly not signing a forward; fans are furious

Liverpool have a lot of ground to make up next season. Jürgen Klopp’s side struggled last season due an unprecedented injury crisis. Despite calls for major investment Liverpool are reportedly not considering signing a forward. Fans are furious.

Liverpool title defence

Last season was a torrid one for the Reds.

Jürgen Klopp battled to a third place finish and nobody knows how he managed it.

Liverpool lost a string of key players for extended periods of the season.

Most obvious was the loss of the side’s starting centre back partnership.

Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk were ruled out for the season in autumn.

However, injuries weren’t the only issue for the Reds.

The attacking trio struggled with fatigue and this lack of intensity led to some lacklustre performances, confirming the need for greater quality in depth up top.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

Liverpool not signing a forward

The need for a striker has fans excited speculating who could come in.

However, the Liverpool ECHO has reported that a forward isn’t on the agenda.

The outlet has claimed that the club are content with their current options and won’t be recruiting a striker, even if they sell off some fringe players.

This is hard to believe given the consistent reporting elsewhere claiming that a forward is high on the list of priorities.

Simon Hughes told The Athletic’s Red Agenda Podcast:

“From what I’ve been told, that’s something that Liverpool are looking at in the summer [signing an attacker], the one area they do want to improve on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did find a buyer for (Divock) Origi and another forward came in.”

As a result we’re going to place faith in Michael Edwards to sort out a lethal finisher.

Twitter reacts to report

Fans have erupted on Twitter, furious with the suggestion that there won’t be any movement up top.
