Liverpool have some big decisions to make ahead of next season. The Reds will need to sort out the midfield following a major departure. According to Paul Gorst, Jürgen Klopp will give Curtis Jones an increased role next season.
Gini Wijnaldum departure
This summer will see Liverpool lose Gini Wijnaldum to PSG.
The Dutchman played a pivotal part in Jürgen Klopp’s success at Anfield.
He rarely missed a game during his five year stay at the club and he netted some iconic goals along the way.
Just what will happen with the midfield now is anybody’s guess.
A successor is likely to be signed given the persistent injury issues in the middle. For instance Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain rarely manage a run of games.
Jürgen Klopp to promote Curtis Jones
One solution to Gini’s departure could be promoting from within.
The Reds could turn to their Scouse academy graduate to fill the hole left by the Dutchman.
Paul Gorst has written in the Liverpool ECHO that Jürgen Klopp will give Curtis Jones more responsibility:
“Curtis Jones had a really good season I thought last time out and he will be set for an increased role next season as his career naturally progresses.”
What RTK has to say
The boss turning to Curtis Jones could be crucial for the Scouser’s development.
The youngster needs more game time, he impressed when given the chance last term.
The 20-year-old made 13 Premier League starts last term, he’ll be hoping to add to that next season.
