Five Euro 2020 Group F stars Liverpool fans should watch today

Euro 2020 Group F kicks off today – arguably the competition’s toughest. Here are five players Liverpool fans should watch.

Group F is the most interesting at Euro 2020. We’ve got France, Germany, Portugal and a halfway decent Hungary side competing for qualification spots.

Everyone will be watching tonight but who should Liverpool fans have their eyes on? We pick out five to watch.

Diogo Jota

Team: Portugal / Liverpool
Age: 24
Position: Forward

Let’s start with the most obvious one, then. Diogo Jota should feature in the group’s opener.

Jota is coming off the back of a breakthrough season of sorts. We knew he was good when Liverpool signed him but no one imagined him being quite as impressive as he was.

The forward looks ready to explode into one of the world’s best, in truth. Maybe that happens at Euro 2020? We’ll get more of an idea tonight.

Nuno Mendes

Team: Portugal / Sporting CP
Age: 18
Position: Left-back

We’ve had links between Mendes and Liverpool for ages now. The Reds supposedly still want him and he should be available this summer.

The interest is obvious. Mendes is an 18-year-old defender who just helped Sporting to the Liga NOS title. He seems destined to become one of the best around.

And while we can’t imagine he gets too much gametime at Euro 2020, the chance is there to really make a name for himself. Hopefully we get to see some of him tonight.

Pedro Goncalves

Team: Portugal / Sporting CP
Age: 22
Position: Forward

Pedro Goncalves, or Pote, was the big story out of Portugal this season. He essentially arrived at Sporting as Bruno Fernandes’s replacement and surpassed the former captain.

Despite not being an out-and-out striker, Pote scored 23 goals to lead his team to the title. He’s been sensational and we think he’d be an ideal fit for the Reds.

Liverpool reportedly want him, too, and we imagine a shining display at Euro 2020 might entice them to make an offer.

Florian Neuhaus

Team: Germany / Borussia Monchengladbach
Age: 24
Position: Midfielder

Liverpool will want a Gini Wijnaldum replacement this summer and Florian Neuhaus is the name that keeps cropping up. Bild claim there have been talks, while AS in Spain believe Liverpool are favourites to sign Neuhaus.

Neuhaus really could be a Liverpool player next season. He seems to have all the tools to be the right signing and the Reds seem to want him.

We think Liverpool fans should keep an eye on him throughout this tournament.

Ousmane Dembele

Team: France / Barcelona
Age: 22
Position: Winger

ESPN believe Barcelona have issued Dembele an ultimatum this summer – sign a new contract or we’ll sell you. And that’s something we think Liverpool can take advantage of.

He’s a player Jurgen Klopp has reportedly asked for in the past – well, here’s the chance.

And Dembele is simply someone worth watching. He’s had a tough time with Barcelona but stayed fit all of last season, earning his spot in France’s squad back after a three-year absence.

If he impresses enough at the Euros, perhaps Liverpool can find a way to finally grant Klopp’s wish.
