England took on Croatia in their opening Euro 2020 fixture today. The Three Lions eased to victory, the score line should’ve been much greater. Some Twitter users feel Trent Alexander-Arnold was a big miss for England v Croatia.
England 1-0 Croatia
Fans gathered in Wembley to see Gareth Southgate’s side cruise to victory in their first game of Euro 2020.
The Three Lions were in control throughout the game with Luka Modric’s side rarely threatening.
Phil Foden came closest in the first half, his curled effort hitting the post past a helpless keeper.
Kalvin Phillips was undoubtedly man of the match, constantly winning the ball back and making things tick in the middle.
The Leeds United man provided the assist for the only goal of the game.
After a driving run towards the Croatian box, the midfielder slipped in Raheem Sterling who managed to fire in the winner.
Alexander-Arnold big miss for England
There was much debate about full backs before the squad was announced.
Fans argued about how many right backs Gareth Southgate should take to the tournament and who would make the cut.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was left out of the England squad in March but he made the final cut for Euro 2020.
Unfortunately for the Scouser he picked up an injury late on in a warm up game which has kept him out of the tournament.
England missed Trent today. Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker were below par on the ball.
The duo consistently wasted possession where Trent would’ve found a killer pass.
Consequently, fans have flooded to Twitter to question why there was ever a debate around the Scouser’s involvement.
