Liverpool should consider budget swoop for Tammy Abraham - opinion

Liverpool have gotten into the habit of signing less obvious targets and turning them into superstars. We’ve seen it throughout FSG’s reign and we’ll see it again in future. Liverpool should consider Tammy Abraham this summer, if they can talk Chelsea down from their £40m asking price.

Striker signing needed

This season showed us that we’re short of a traditional number nine.

The Reds lack a lethal finisher in their side, previously this hasn’t been a problem.

However, this season the front three failed to create the chances they typically do.

Furthermore, they wasted the chances they usually take.

From January onwards this caused a dramatic slide down the table.

Divock Origi isn’t up to the task and will likely be sold this summer.

As a result, Liverpool have to sign a striker to add competition and quality in depth.

Liverpool should consider Tammy Abraham

The Reds can often throw a surprise at us in the transfer market.

One surprise this summer would be a move for a Premier League rival’s forward.

Liverpool should consider a move for Tammy Abraham at Chelsea.

The 23-year-old is thought to be available this summer having had his appearances limited by the Blues’ spending spree (one which is set to continue).

According to The Telegraph, the striker is available for £40m.

In his first top flight season Abraham netted 15 goals, an impressive haul for his maiden campaign.

Now he has fallen down the pecking order it’s easy to forget the promise he showed.

Liverpool giving him the regular game time he needs would get the best out of him and help him realise his huge potential.

This would be a repeat of the 2013 signing of Daniel Sturridge.

Also out of favour at Chelsea, the Reds offered him a way out and he went on to be one of the most prolific strikers in the division.

Had it not been for injuries he’d be an all timer in the Premier League.

If Liverpool can get Abraham for less than £40m then he could be a similar bargain.
