Jordan Henderson will return from injury for England today, according to Gareth Southgate. The Liverpool captain hasn’t played since February.
Rewind back to February and pretty much the last thing Liverpool needed was another injury. Especially to a player as important as Jordan Henderson.
The captain was playing at centre-back, such was the injury crisis, covering for Fabinho. Fabinho, of course, was injured.
But 30 minutes into the Merseyside derby at Anfield, Henderson went down. It didn’t look too bad at the time but it eventually required surgery.
Liverpool would be without their captain for the rest of the season – a huge blow that they, somehow, eventually overcame to finish third in the Premier League.

But along with every senior centre-back, the hope is that Henderson can return for next season and play a big part in Liverpool’s title push. And it seems he’s ready to do just that.
Jordan Henderson to return for England
Gareth Southgate says Henderson should play for England today – his first football since February 20th.
“The plan will be that he’s involved with the game,” said Southgate, per Sky Sports. “The last two, three days training has been a lot more positive for him.
“I think the confidence of having a scan that showed no issues has helped him to push forward with his rehabilitation and with his training.
“So he’s been visibly happier within himself, I think, so that’s a positive sign.”
This is nothing but good news. Liverpool need Henderson to be fit and firing going into next season. Euro 2020 could be a blessing in that regard.
If this can get him fully ready to kick off the new campaign with positive momentum, we can be grateful for the tournament. As long as he avoids any further injuries, of course.
