As France took on Holland in the Euro u21 quarter-final, centre-back Ibrahima Konate was the talk of Twitter.
Netherlands 2-1 France
Unfortunately for the Reds’ newest recruit, France suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat in the last minute.
Myron Boadu was the Dutch hero with a brace, including the 93rd-minute winner.
It was a very even game, with some great talent on show for both teams.

France went 1-0 up through a 23rd-minute Dayot Upamecano header. Boadu replied in the 51st minute, although he seemed to be marginally offside.
France had the better chances as both sides chased a winner.
However, it was the Oranje that found it as Les Blues pushed high up the pitch in injury time. The ref barely allowed for the game to be restarted before blowing for full-time.
Captain Konate hardly put a foot wrong
Liverpool fans were very keen to get a look at their new centre-half. They would have been impressed with what they saw.
Konate wore the captain’s armband and gave a good showing for himself.
His pace and power made everything look easy for him, while he was incredibly comfortable on the ball.
He was not at fault for either goal.
For the first, he made a good block in the build-up before Faitout Maouassa played Boadu onside in a poor lapse of concentration. Having that said, it was debatable whether it actually was onside, but the left-back was well behind his defensive line to add doubt to the matter.
Konate did play Justin Kluivert onside on the halfway line for the winner, but it was Upamecano that left the winger in acres of space on the French left side. He just couldn’t get back in time to stop Kluivert’s cross to Boadu.
All-in-all, though, Jurgen Klopp will be impressed with his new man’s performance.
What did Twitter make of Konate showing?
Numerous Kopites tuned in to see their new hero. Many made their positive opinions on Konate known on Twitter.
