Liverpool handed boost by Chelsea Champions League win

Liverpool haven’t had much to shout about this season. We need to focus on the next campaign instead, the Reds can retake their place at the top once the lads are fighting fit again. We’ll be wanting to go further in Europe next term and thankfully Liverpool have been handed a boost by Chelsea winning the Champions League.

Liverpool Champions League campaign

This season we were never going to win the Champions League.

Given the injuries the sustained throughout the campaign it just wasn’t on the cards.

Despite the obstacles faced the lads battled valiantly into the quarter finals.

The group stage was a breeze and RB Leipzig were dealt with swiftly in the first knockout round.

Then we saw arguably the worst 45 minutes of the season against Real Madrid.

Liverpool utterly collapsed and Jordan Henderson’s absence was sorely felt.

A strong second leg performance wasn’t enough to get back into the tie and we were dumped out of the competition at Anfield.

Liverpool boosted by Chelsea Champions League win

This week saw the competition come to an end.

Chelsea won the Champions League in Porto, beating Manchester City 1-0.

The West London club took the lead through Kai Havertz in the first half and kept the opposition at arm’s length for the remainder of the tie.

Chelsea winning the Champions League benefits Liverpool in its impact on the pots for next season’s competition.

Had Thomas Tuchel’s side lost then they’d have been in pot two, forcing Borussia Dortmund into pot three.

This could’ve seen Liverpool drawn in a group of death with a Spanish giant and Borussia Dortmund.

Thankfully such a situation has been avoided with Chelsea ending up in pot one and the Germans in pot two.
