Liverpool’s academy has been stacked with talent in the past few years. The Reds have had something of a shakeup with the youth system, bringing in Vitor Matos to connect the youth with the first team. Constantly looking to improve, Liverpool should go all out for Carney Chukwuemeka at Aston Villa. He dominated the FA Youth Cup final.
Notable academy signings
The past few years have seen a number of top talents added to the youth ranks.
Harvey Elliott was signed shortly after the Reds lifted the European Cup in Madrid.
Sepp van den Berg was signed from PEC Zwolle the same summer; both youngsters have impressed on loan in the Championship this season.
Since then Germany youth captain Melkamu Frauendorf has joined from Hoffenheim.
Marcelo Pitaluga was signed for a snip from Fluminense, brought in as heir to Alisson Becker.
We’ve also seen the U18s side bolstered by the magnificent Mateusz Musialowski and Wayne Rooney’s prodigy Kaide Gordon.
Liverpool should move for Carney Chukwuemeka
This week saw the FA Youth Cup final played between Aston Villa and Liverpool.
The game ended 2-1 to the Villa with the hosts going two goals ahead within 11 minutes.
The Midlands side were good value for their lead by halftime, completely outclassing the Reds. Truth be told Liverpool came up against a generational cohort.
Liverpool were unable to deal with Carney Chukwuemeka.
The 17-year-old centre midfielder was dominant in the middle, he swept up defensively and prowled forward confidently.
He looked every inch the perfect box-to-box midfielder, the Reds had no answer for him.
Liverpool should go all out for Carney Chukwuemeka; if he ends up moving to one of the Manchester clubs we’d be kicking ourselves.
Of course, Villa won’t want to let him go and why should they? He is the real deal, we can expect him to make further strides in the first team next season.
