Liverpool 2-0 Crystal Palace

Liverpool took on Crystal Palace today with it all to play for.

The Reds went into the game knowing a win should guarantee a top four finish.

From the get go it was evident how much the players had missed the fans’ backing.

The lads were determined and energetic, playing slick and rapid football when in possession.

After plenty of knocking on the door Sadio Mane put the Reds’ in front when he seized on a loose ball from a corner 10 minutes from halftime.

The hosts continued to dominate throughout before Mane scuffed in another effort 15 minutes from the end to settle the nerves.

Gini Wijnaldum goodbye for Liverpool

Liverpool signed Gini Wijnaldum in 2016 and in the years since he’s become a club legend.

The Dutchman has been the engine driving one of the best sides the club has seen.

This summer he will leave on a free transfer with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Speaking after the game Gini Wijnaldum gave Liverpool fans an emotional goodbye, telling the official club site:

“The feeling I have, the feeling my family has with this club, is only good things. I hope that it would be possible that I come back to watch a game and support Liverpool because I will be a Liverpool supporter for life.”

What RTK has to say

This is just heartbreaking.

Gini Wijnaldum has gone horrendously underappreciated.

The midfielder has been an undroppable part of our midfield and some sections of the fan base have failed to recognise how important he’s been.

He is a club legend. No two ways about it. His effort, his goals. Huge.

We will miss him dearly.
