Gini Wijnaldum will almost certainly be joining a new club next season. Here’s what we know as he prepares to leave Liverpool.
Gini Wijnaldum looks set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season but where’s he going next? The Dutchman has the ability to join whoever he wants as he comes to the end of his contract.
Now, Wijnaldum has not announced anything yet, meaning he could stay with Liverpool. And if he is leaving, we don’t know where yet.
But here’s what’s reported about Wijnaldum’s next move.
Where could Gini Wijnaldum be next season?
For starters, there is an offer on the table from Liverpool, per Sky Sports. Wijnaldum hasn’t formally turned it down, either. It seems the club won’t budge, though.
If they don’t change the terms, Wijnaldum won’t accept.
And that brings us to where he could go. The most talked about destination is Barcelona, where Wijnaldum’s former international boss Ronald Koeman is manager.
The Times has gone as far as saying Wijnaldum will join them. That was two months ago, however, and there hasn’t been an announcement.
Sky Sports say Barcelona could head in a different direction entirely. The Catalonians would back youngster Ilaix Moriba over signing Wijnaldum. It appears there’s a lot to clear up with this one.
One interesting claim comes from Marca who believe Chelsea could be in for Wijnaldum this summer. As an English club, they must wait until the season is done before approaching the player, however.
But you’ve got to say, the lack of any announcement makes you wonder if this is a genuine possibility. Wijnaldum may well want to see what English clubs can offer him.
And then there’s supposedly been talks with Internazionale. That comes from CalcioMercato, though we haven’t heard about that one in some time.
As for the most recent talk, it comes from Abendzeitung in Germany. They believe Bayern Munich are lining up a move for Wijnaldum.
He’d be an alternative to Florian Neuhaus, apparently, and they like him as a free option. It comes after Wijnaldum’s agent publicly asked Bayern to contact him in a bizarre move.
So that’s the situation. Where is Wijnaldum going? We don’t know – we can’t be 100% sure he’s going anywhere. He certainly has his suitors, though, and we imagine at least one of them will better Liverpool’s offer.
