Liverpool fans are gasping to see their talismanic centre back return to action. The Reds have been without their starting centre back pairing since early on in the season. Whilst many are hoping they’ll make the start of the next campaign, Jürgen Klopp has admitted that his centre backs may not be ready for the start of pre-season.
What happened with the Liverpool defence this season has never been seen before in the Premier League.
Jürgen Klopp has lost every one of his senior centre backs until next term.
In October we saw Virgil van Dijk flown into by Jordan Pickford, the Everton keeper rupturing the Dutchman’s ACL.
In early November Joe Gomez suffered a similar injury whilst running in England training.
Joel Matip fought on for a while and he was in and out of the side until he too was ruled out for the season in January.
It was a freak run of unfortunate injuries, one we’re likely to not see again for some time.
Jürgen Klopp on centre backs
We’ve not had a tremendous amount of news about our defenders.
Recently we learned that Virgil van Dijk won’t be heading to the Euros.
Apart from that the trio is thought to be progressing well but we don’t know much more.
Jürgen Klopp has issued a worrying update on his centre backs, the Metro quote the boss as saying:
“Our new season will start in the summer with pre-season and it’s not certain the three guys will start with us.”
What RTK has to say
This is a real concern.
If the lads are going to be ready to start next season then they need to get a full pre-season under their belt.
The Reds have been dire without our senior centre backs, Virgil van Dijk in particular sets the tone for his side. We need him back.
