Ornstein provides update on reported Liverpool pursuit of Sven Botman

Why do Liverpool need to sign a centre back?

Unless you’ve been under a rock this season you will know just why Liverpool need to sign a centre back this summer.

The club have been utterly battered by injuries this season with fitness issues derailing the club’s title defence.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were sidelined for the season before we even reached December.

Joel Matip suffered the same fate in January, triggering the arrivals of Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies.

Despite the winter window additions many believe the Reds aren’t settled yet.

Liverpool and Sven Botman

During the January transfer window Liverpool were persistently linked with Sven Botman.

The 21-year-old Dutch defender has been starring for Ligue 1 leaders Lille this season.

The Athletic this week published an exclusive interview with the rising star.

The interview mentions links with the Reds. In the comments section David Ornstein provided some clarity on the situation, writing:

“I can’t see Liverpool [signing Botman] happening and to my knowledge there was no real substance to the reports in January. Chelsea is an interesting shout but I don’t know if they’re in for him.”

What RTK has to say

This comes as no surprise.

It looks as though Liverpool are intent on bringing in Ibrahima Konate.

The Reds will hopefully get the deal over the line once the season ends and they know how much money they can afford to pay up front, how much they’ll need to raise.
