Midfield gap

Liverpool are set to lose a key member of the midfield this summer.

Gini Wijnaldum’s contract expires at the end of the season and it’s looking highly unlikely that the club will be able to tie him down to fresh terms.

The 30-year-old is understood to be asking for a pay-hike to reflect his importance to the side.

However, given his age the club are believed to be reluctant to give him a lucrative deal when his role in the side could be reduced in the coming years.

As it stands it looks like he is set to join Barcelona although Bayern Munich have also creeped into contention.

James Ward-Prowse at Liverpool

Signing a replacement for Gini is an absolute necessity.

Garth Crooks believes that James Ward-Prowse would fit in at Liverpool.

The BBC pundit was gushing with praise for the Southampton star in his team of the week column, writing:

“Ward-Prowse, in my opinion, has been Southampton’s player of the season. They will do well to keep him. He’s a Liverpool player if ever I saw one.”

What RTK has to say

This is an interesting one, having James Ward-Prowse at Liverpool would mean we have two of the best set-piece takers in the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is approaching the peak of his career and could be looking to move to a bigger club soon.

However, we can’t see Southampton wanting to sell yet another star player to us anytime soon.
