Liverpool have had a torrid season at centre back. There hasn’t been much to shout about when it comes to that area of the pitch. We can take heart from the consistency of the Bolton Baresi and the loan form of a wonderkid teenager. In an interview with the Liverpool ECHO, Sepp van den Berg has praised Divock Origi among other senior teammates.

Sepp van den Berg season
Sepp van den Berg could be forgiven for being a bit miffed about his lack of first team opportunities this term.
The Dutchman arrived at Anfield in 2019 as a record breaking 17-year-old centre back.
Since then he’s made sporadic cup appearances, sometimes impressing and other times looking out of his depth.
He was sent on loan to Preston North End in January whilst Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips held down the fort in the senior side.
The loan spell was a success with Van Den Berg impressing as a right back in the Championship.
Sepp van den Berg on Divock Origi
The Dutchman has returned to the Reds now with the Championship season over.
He has given an interview to the Liverpool ECHO upon his return, using the opportunity to wax lyrical about some of his senior teammates:
“For any young player to be able to be on the same pitch as players like that is really good for your development.
“I really liked it and can’t wait to play against them again in training.
“They (Salah, Firmino and Mane) are the obvious names. Lallana was unbelievable when he was still at Liverpool. You couldn’t get the ball off him. Even Divock Origi. He’s so quick, it’s unbelievable.”
What RTK has to say
Sepp van den Berg must surely be able to handle Divock Origi, every other defender seems capable of doing so these days.
Fingers crossed the Dutchman is given another loan spell next term, he was highly impressive for Preston North End.
He also showcased a vital versatility by shining as a right back, another season of that and he could be a backup in the first team.
