Liverpool are going to have to bring in a midfielder this summer. Last year we sold a centre back without replacing him and look where that got us. Now we need to replace Gini Wijnaldum. According to reports in Italy, Liverpool are leading the race for Rodrigo de Paul.
The Reds are set to be left with a gaping hole in the midfield this summer.
Gini Wijnaldum’s contract expires at the end of the season.
The Dutchman has become an integral part of the midfield since he joined the club in 2016.
Unfortunately, despite being a nigh on ever present in recent seasons, Liverpool have failed to agree fresh terms with the midfielder.
As a result Barcelona are expected to snap him up on a free transfer.
Liverpool leading Rodrigo de Paul race
There are dozens of players being touted as Gini’s sucessor.
One name that Liverpool are constantly linked with is Rodrigo de Paul.
The Udinese midfielder has been enjoying another standout season in the Italian Serie A.
He’s netted nine and assisted nine from midfield this term.
According to Il Milanista, Liverpool are on the front row for the signature Rodrigo de Paul with both Milan sides also in the chase.
Tutto Udinese recently claimed that the midfielder will cost around £42m.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Rodrigo de Paul would be an exciting move.
The 26-year-old has been a standout performer for Udinese in recent seasons.
However, he turns 27-years-old this month which may not suit FSG.
The club are more likely to move for a younger alternative.
