Liverpool are always looking to snap up the best and brightest youngsters. We’ve seen in the past couple of years how intent the Reds are on building the team of tomorrow with the likes of Harvey Elliott and Mateusz Musialowski being drafted in. This week we learned of a star we missed out on; Chivas centre back Luis Olivas has discussed Liverpool offering him a trial back in 2014.

Who is Luis Olivas?
21-year-old centre back Luis Olivas plies his trade in the middle of the Chivas defence.
The Mexican was recently promoted from the academy and is impressing in his first starts for the senior side.
17 games into the season Chivas are languishing in ninth place in the table, they finished fifth last term.
Olivas has played the full 90 minutes on four occasions since the start of April, obviously doing enough to keep his place in the side despite his inexperience.
Luis Olivas on Liverpool trials
Speaking at a pre-match press conference the youngster has revealed that things could’ve gone very differently for him.
Luis Olivas told the press that Liverpool offered him a trial after he impressed at an international tournament in Sweden, Radio Formula quote him as saying:
“They invited me in 2014 if I remember correctly, because of a tournament that I had with the national team, it was my first in Sweden.
“There they saw me and I had the possibility to go to do the trials, but due to minor issues, I could not stay.
“The truth is it was a very nice experience. The facilities, the players, the coaches, things are different. It’s another culture, also in terms of football, and that opens the picture a little more for you, and thank God I was given the opportunity and now hopefully that chance will be given again.”
What RTK has to say
We could’ve done with you this season Luis lad.
Having another promising young centre back in the ranks wouldn’t have gone amiss this term.
This is an interesting one, though. We can only guess at what prevented him being able to stop by for a trial.
He would’ve been 14-years-old at the time so we can assume that it’s just not that easy to pull a lad aside on his way back to Mexico from Sweden.
Despite not being able to make the trial it is good to see that he’s still optimistic and hopeful of the Reds returning for him one day.
If he keeps impressing for Chivas who knows what will happen further down the line.
