Liverpool are going to have to make a number of signings during the summer transfer window. This surely has to be a window of sweeping change in the first team. This season has taught us that availability needs to be paramount. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are really close to sealing a deal for Ibrahima Konate.
Centre back signing necessary
Last summer Liverpool made the ill judged decision to sell Dejan Lovren without signing a replacement.
The Croatian was shipped off to Zenit with the Reds placing great faith in the fitness of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
Within a couple of months the starting centre back pairing had been ruled out for the season.
A couple of months after that and the last man standing was also sidelined until next term.

A parade of youngsters filled in along with senior midfielders being dragged out of position.
Whilst a couple of players came in during the winter window many expect the Reds to do further business over the summer to secure their preferred target(s).
Liverpool close to signing Ibrahima Konate
The past year has seen the club linked with dozens of centre backs.
The Reds have been rumoured to be in for ridiculous targets such as Kalidou Koulibaly and Aissa Mandi.
More sensible targets have been bandied about, we’ve already got one of them at the club in Ozan Kabak.
In March, The Athletic claimed that Liverpool are working on a deal to sign Ibrahima Konate.
Since then the story has dragged on and on with speculation aplenty.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Liverpool chase for Ibrahima Konate, saying:
“It is really, really close. it is just a matter of time.
“The agreement with the player is done. They want to sign the player. It is just a case of the clubs negotiating.
“The player wants to go. It is a five-year contract. In some weeks, it will be complete.”
The outlet has reported that the deal will be worth around £30m.
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Ibrahima Konate would be a helluva move.
The 21-year-old Frenchman is widely regarded as one of the best defensive prospects in Europe.
Should the Reds also sign Ozan Kabak permanently then the Reds will surely have a duo lined up for the next decade.
We expect this one to go through, there’s been too much noise for it not to happen.
It now appears to just be a case of waiting for some concrete news to come out.
