Liverpool are going to be busy over the summer. Michael Edwards and his team are going to be hard at work sorting out all of the incomings and outgoings. An important player is certain to leave and he’ll need a successor. According to The Mirror, Jose Mourinho arriving at Roma could open the door for Liverpool to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Gini Wijnaldum departure

Liverpool signed Gini Wijnaldum from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016.

The Dutchman had spent one season in the North East, impressing all with his goal grabbing ability – he even netted four in one game for the Magpies.

Since his arrival on Merseyside he’s been adapted into a combative, box-to-box ball winner.

He has become a modern day icon for his work rate and his important goals; we’ll never forget his brace against Barcelona.

Despite his importance to the side the club have failed to agree an extension his contract.

As a result the Dutchman will leave on a free transfer in the summer with Barcelona expected to snap him up.

Liverpool could land Lorenzo Pellegrini

The Serie A has been abuzz in the past week with the news of Jose Mourinho taking over at Roma next season.

The Portuguese coach hasn’t been out of work long having been sacked by Spurs in the wake of the club’s Super League announcement.

The iconic gaffer is expected to make sweeping changes at the Serie A side.

According to The Mirror he is already being linked with moves for Spurs midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Eric Dier as well as Manchester United’s Nemanja Matic.

The same report has claimed that these moves could open the door for Liverpool to sign Lorenzo Pellegrini from Roma.

The Italian midfielder allegedly has a release clause of £25m with The Mirror tipping him as an ideal Gini Wijnaldum replacement.

The 24-year-old operates in centre midfield for Roma but can also be deployed as a left winger.

This season he’s netted five and assisted six, notching six Man of the Match awards.

Pellegrini is noted for his vision and passing ability as well as his anticipation.

What RTK has to say

Liverpool signing Lorenzo Pellegrini would make sense.

He’s a good age for an FSG signing and at £25m there are more expensive options out there.

His numbers are impressive and his game somewhat matches what we would be losing with Gini’s departure.

We’ll just have to wait and see how many midfielders Jose wants to bring in for his rebuild.
