Liverpool have struggled for goals since the turn of the New Year. The Reds have slid down the table and are now in a scrap for fourth place due to the side’s disappointing 2021 form. Reinforcements up top are vital. Liverpool have been linked with Donyell Malen and Patson Daka; they may need to sign both.
Front three failures
When Liverpool thrashed Crystal Palace 7-0 in December everybody thought that it was a sign.
This was a sign that the Reds were ready to defend their title, the side’s lethal finishing on the day came in for widespread praise.
Since that day we’ve seen a drastic drop off in quality in front of goal.
The front three have been wasteful to an unimaginable degree.

An attacking line once thought of as one of the most lethal in the world is now missing chance after chance.
There have been injuries which have led to fewer chances being created but some of the opportunities being wasted are unexplainable.
“From what I’ve been told, that’s something that Liverpool are looking at in the summer [signing an attacker], the one area they do want to improve on. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did find a buyer for (Divock) Origi and another forward came in.”
Liverpool linked with Donyell Malen
The rumour mill is already in full action ahead of the summer window.
According to Voetbal International, Liverpool are leading the race to sign Donyell Malen.
The Dutch 22-year-old is currently leading the line for PSV Eindhoven.
A lethal finisher, he has banged in 17 goals and bagged seven assists in 24 starts and six sub appearances this term.
Voetbal International has claimed that the Reds could snap him up for £25m.
Liverpool linked with Patson Daka
Malen isn’t the only player reported to be on the Reds’ radar.
Salzburger Nachrichten has previously claimed that Liverpool want to sign Patson Daka from Red Bull Salzburg.
The Zambian forward has proven to be a goal machine in the Austrian top flight.
The 22-year-old has scored 24 goals in 24 games in the league this season.
According to the report linking the Reds, the striker could be available for as cheap as £17m.
Liverpool may need both
The reality of the situation is that signing one striker may not be good enough.
Liverpool may need to sign Donyell Malen and Patson Daka this summer.
This is because moving on Divock Origi should be a priority given how disappointing he’s been as a backup this term.
The Reds need a striker to step into the starting lineup and grab us goals every game.
We also need a forward to replace Origi when he is inevitably moved on.
This could prove a costly summer for the club but we need to accept that signing just one forward could mean taking one step forward but two steps back.
