Liverpool are going to have to start building their next Jürgen Klopp squad in the coming windows. The first squad has served us well but gradually players will need to be replaced. The front line in particular is in need of a reshape. Reported Liverpool target Erling Haaland will still be a Borussia Dortmund player next season according to club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke, that’s great news for the Reds.
Striker needed urgently
Roberto Firmino has been critical to Liverpool’s success under Jürgen Klopp.
The Brazilian has carved out a unique role for himself in recent years.
He has become a more intense reiteration of a traditional number 9.
He drops deep to receive the ball but is aggressive in his defensive contributions.

Despite his importance to the side’s glory the past season has exposed a severe flaw in his finishing ability.
Furthermore, opposition sides appear to have figured out how to play against Liverpool.
We can no longer hit sides on the counter with the same regularity, we can’t dance through them as often.
This is due to our opponents deploying low stubborn blocks and hoping to nick a goal in the final moments.
As a result we need to bring in a lethal finisher to mop up the few chances we’re able to create against this anti-football approach.
Liverpool target Erling Haaland
Norway’s boy wonder has become one of the hottest properties in football in the past couple of years.
The towering forward has been scoring silly amounts of goals for his age.
According to Eurosport, Liverpool are one of a host of clubs targeting Erling Haaland.
The Reds are in the mix along with every other top European side with any ambition.
This season he’s netted 25 goals in 25 starts and one sub appearance in the Bundesliga, given that he’s just 20-years-old that is a pretty phenomenal tally.
Watzke on Haaland future
There has been plenty of speculation surrounding the striker, nobody wants to be beaten to the punch.
Many outlets have claimed that bids will be launched for him this summer.
However, Borussia Dortmund are expecting to keep ahold of him for next season.
As quoted by The Metro, club chief Hans-Joachim Watzke has insisted:
“Erling Haaland will remain a Borussia Dortmund player next year.”
Big boost for Liverpool pursuit of Haaland
Should Dortmund keep ahold of the striker for another year then this has major implications.
The Liverpool pursuit of Erling Haaland would receive a major boost from him remaining with the Germans for next season.
This is because next summer the striker’s release clause comes into play, a clause worth £62m according to The Metro’s report on Watzke’s comments.
Should a bidding war erupt this summer then Liverpool would surely be left behind.
However, if we were on an equal playing field next summer then it is a different matter altogether.
