Reported Liverpool target Bissouma set to cost over £40m

Reported Liverpool target Yves Bissouma will cost over £40m to sign this summer, according to The Athletic.

The Brighton man has been strongly linked with the Reds for some time; the first reports of interest appearing in December.

Many fans see Bissouma as the ideal replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, who is expected to depart the club this summer at the end of his contract.

However, his outstanding form this season has seen his price skyrocket.

He has been quietly showing his ability ever since he joined the Seagulls back in 2018, but he has really exploded this season.

The Malian does look perfectly suited to Liverpool’s current midfield.

He has outstanding defensive output, with 4.4 tackles and interceptions per game.

Yet he also offers a lot more going forward than the likes of Wijnaldum, with his excellent dribbling ability.

It is easy to see why Jurgen Klopp and Michael Edwards are interested.

At 24, he still has lots of improving to do.

Is Bissouma the best option this summer?

It does appear that Yves Bissouma is the perfect player to replace Wijnaldum at Liverpool.

His stats prove that he is a superbly well-rounded central midfielder. It is clear to see by watching him as well.

But it is possible that more complete options are available for a similar price, or even cheaper.

The big question surrounding Bissouma’s suitability is how Jurgen Klopp sees his Liverpool side evolving in the next few years.

If he wants to persist with the current system and tactics, then Bissouma is the ideal signing.

But it is possible that the coaches decide to change it up a little and allow for a more effective midfielder in the final third. A No 8 that creates and scores goals at a regular rate.

If this is the case, then £40m may be better spent elsewhere.

Yet if Liverpool do decide to go after Bissouma, he will still most likely be a fantastic success.
