Jamie Carragher had a message for Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool star scored a fantastic winner on Saturday. The full-back has come in for some criticism.
Trent Alexander-Arnold may not need much support after his goal but Jamie Carragher had an important message for him regardless. He has had a difficult time of late, after all.
Alexander-Arnold didn’t make the England squad in a shock omission that put a spotlight on him. He responded with an assist against Arsenal but things took a turn against Real Madrid.
Los Blancos targeted his flank, trying to get in between him and Nat Phillips. It worked, too, with two first-half goals coming that way.
It was a reminder that the Scouser isn’t as good defensively as he is going forward. So was he good enough to be England’s right-back?

The criticism was quite fierce from some and will undoubtedly have had an effect on Alexander-Arnold. But he certainly silenced some critics on Saturday.
With time ticking away, Alexander-Arnold smashed home a shot from just inside the area to win the game. It was a wonderful strike from a player who hadn’t quite got going in the game.
That prompted Carragher to send a message on Twitter with a reminder that this is pressure Alexander-Arnold must face.
“Really pleased for [Alexander-Arnold],” he wrote. “He’s had a lot of stick this week, it’s part of the game & growing as a player.
“Responded in the right on way on the pitch.”
What RTK has to say
Every player goes through a period of pressure – especially when they’re young. Alexander-Arnold’s just happens to come after he’s won major trophies and individual awards.
But Carragher is right. Pressure and criticism is just how it goes. The important thing is using it as a way to improve and grow.
It’s a test, really, and one we fully back Alexander-Arnold to pass.
