Gary Lineker makes stance on 'brilliant' Trent Alexander-Arnold clear

Gary Lineker didn’t hide his thoughts on Trent Alexander-Arnold after the Liverpool star’s display against Arsenal. The ex-England forward loved what he saw.

Trent Alexander-Arnold shone against Arsenal. He grabbed an assist for the first, helped make the third and kept a clean-sheet.

There’s not much more you can ask for, really. It was a fantastic all-round performance.

But the under-the-radar stats were just as good. Alexander-Arnold created four chances in the game – twice as many as anyone else and twice as many as Arsenal managed.

He won 100 per cent of his duels, picked up three interceptions – the most for Liverpool – and wasn’t dribbled past once. This was Alexander-Arnold at his best.

And it comes right after he was inexplicably left out of the England squad by Gareth Southgate. After this one, though, it’s clear who England’s best full-back is.

And it’s not really close.

Ex-England striker Gary Lineker joined the plaudits after the game, saying Alexander-Arnold ‘just can’t’ miss out on the Euros squad.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

“The perfect response from [Alexander-Arnold] to his bizarre omission from the England squad,” he said on Twitter.

“He’s been brilliant tonight. Can’t be left at home in the summer. Just can’t be.”

What RTK has to say

It would be absolutely insane to leave Alexander-Arnold at home this summer. He’s the best right-back in the world, after all, and has to start.

Really, at this stage, we’re not sure what he has to do to win people over. He’s got the trophies, he’s got the stats, and he’s got the individual awards.

He can even boast the fifth-best 1-on-1 success rate in the Premier League and still have a reputation for being bad at it. Alexander-Arnold is, quite comfortably, the best English right-back around, even if some bizarrely refuse to see it.

So we agree with Lineker here – Alexander-Arnold can’t possibly spend his summer at home.
