'Majestic': Press heaps praise on Neco Williams for Wales display

The Liverpool first team isn’t exactly easy to break into. The Reds have assembled one of the most fearsome squads in world football, giving youngsters an uphill struggle when it comes to making a mark. Some are having to prove themselves for their country first. National press has heaped praise on Neco Williams for his performance for Wales against the Czech Republic.

Neco Williams academy star

The past couple of seasons has seen Neco Williams make steady progress.

The 19-year-old right back was converted from a right winger into a defender during his development in the academy and he’s blossomed in the defensive role.

He has made sporadic cup appearances for the Reds and impressed in them sufficiently enough to earn a regular place in the Welsh national team.

Unfortunately for Neco, he is behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order at Anfield and the Scouser is still only 22-years-old.

Neco Williams for Wales

This week the Dragons took on the Czech Republic in a World Cup qualifier.

Ryan Giggs’ side just about edged the fiery encounter.

The visitors had a man sent off early on in the second half when Patrik Schick was shown a straight red for an altercation with Connor Roberts.

Roberts himself was sent off in the 77th minute for a second bookable offence.

It took a delicious cross from Gareth Bale and a well taken header from Dan James to edge a victory.

Neco Williams was a standout performer for Wales in the gritty win; Wales Online gave him an 8/10, writing:

“Wales’ best player in the first half, looking composed, quick and purposeful in possession.

“Majestic defensively in the closing moments after (Connor) Roberts had been sent off.”

What RTK has to say

Just what to do with Neco is going to prove a conundrum.

He is extremely talented and full of potential but he isn’t going to get a game any time soon with Trent ahead of him.

It might take the Scouser being thrown into the midfield for the young Welshman to cement a place.

Otherwise, who knows what the future holds for Neco.
