Liverpool have had an awful season and we can trace our woes back to one decisive moment in one massive game, back to that day in October when we lost our talismanic centre back for the season. As he edges pack to fitness, Trevor Sinclair has slammed Frank de Boer for his remarks on Virgil van Dijk.
Van Dijk injury
The Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park this season will live in infamy on Merseyside.
It was a game marred by a pair of horror challenges from the hosts.
Towards the end of the game Richarlison was sent off for a two footed tackle on Thiago.
The more memorable moment came in the first half when Jordan Pickford inexplicably escaped a red card when he flew into Virgil van Dijk at knee height.
The Dutchman ruptured his ACL and was subsequently ruled out until next season.
Sinclair on Frank de Boer and Van Dijk
This summer’s Euros are edging ever closer.
Netherlands boss Frank de Boer has hinted he wants Virgil van Dijk back fit for the tournament.
The national coach insisted that the centre back is just eight weeks away from fitness and could potentially be included in the squad.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Trevor Sinclair slammed Frank de Boer for rushing Virgil van Dijk back:
“You’ve got to think about the players recovery and I mean full recovery and welfare. It has got to be paramount.
“He’s a top player worth £100 million plus and for me this stinks as win at all costs for Frank de Boer. I think the best thing is the cautious approach.
“Get a pre-season and let’s get Virgil van Dijk back to stay back, not just come back to break down again because he’s been rushed back.”
What RTK has to say
We totally agree with Trevor Sinclair, Frank de Boer would be reckless to include Virgil in the Netherlands squad for the Euros.
The Dutchman is essential to Liverpool’s hopes next season, to see him suffer a setback at an international tournament because his coach couldn’t cope without him would be devastating.
