Only six players are worth more than Trent Alexander-Arnold, according to a new report. The Liverpool man has come into some criticism lately.
CIES Football Observatory have done some extensive analysis on the most valuable footballers around. Their latest report lists the most-valuable player from each club in Europe’s top five leagues.
The result is some interesting data. Two players stand above the rest, for instance – Marcus Rashford and Erling Haaland. Each could command up to £172m, they say.
Now, that seems a little high on Rashford, if we’re being honest, but then he’s still just 23 and has a new contract.
Joao Felix, Phil Foden, Kylian Mbappe and Bukayo Saka are the next four – CIES believes they could go for £130m.

The next group features Liverpool’s most-valuable player. They have Trent Alexander-Arnold down as being worth more than any other Red. He could apparently go for around £103m.
There are quite a few in that group, though. Harry Kane, Timo Werner, Alphonso Davies, Frenkie de Jong, Lautaro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt could all go for that £103m figure.
What RTK has to say
It means that six clubs boast at least one asset worth more than Liverpool’s finest. But we’re not sure we agree.
Saka stands out as an obvious one. Is he really worth more than Alexander-Arnold? That seems quite crazy to us. We’re not sure what he’s achieved to boast that figure.
We’re talking about a Liverpool player who has won the biggest trophies, broken records in his position, and won several major individual awards. All at 22.
This report comes within a few days of Alexander-Arnold not making the England team. He came into some criticism from his national boss, too.
“I don’t think he has played at the level that he found in the last couple of years, but I think he is getting very close that now,” said Gareth Southgate.
For us, we think CIES are undervaluing him a little, too. Maybe that’s bias talking but Alexander-Arnold continues to be underrated.
