Report: Liverpool target Kalidou Koulibaly to have asking price slashed

Liverpool are sure to be busy in the summer transfer window. Jürgen Klopp will be hard at work rebuilding his squad after a season which has exposed just how thin the side is in terms of depth. The Reds may still have work to do in defence. According to reports in Italy, Napoli are ready to slash their asking price for reported Liverpool target Kalidou Koulibaly.

Centre back recruitment

Whether or not Liverpool are going to sign a centre back in the summer is up for debate.

The Reds have lost all three of their senior centre backs until the next campaign but they brought two defenders in in the winter window.

However, there’s no certainty that Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak are the long term solutions.

There is also doubt over the future of Joel Matip given his persistent fitness issues.

Liverpool target Kalidou Koulibaly update

There are bound to be plenty of candidates when it comes to the Reds potential hunt for a centre back.

Raphinha, Coutinho and Tielemans: The signings Liverpool could make this summer

This month Christian Falk claimed that Liverpool are interested in Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Senegal international has long been linked with a move away from Napoli but the Italian side have consistently priced him out of an exit.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (via The Express), Napoli are ready to slash their asking price for the defender in order to alleviate the wage bill.

What RTK has to say

We just can’t see it.

We can’t see Liverpool signing Kalidou Koulibaly when he turns 30-years-old in the summer.

We’re about to let Gini Wijnaldum go on a free because he’s into his 30s himself, it wouldn’t make sense at all to splash so much money on a defender who we will only get a couple of years out of.
