Jurgen Klopp reportedly ready to put immense faith in Liverpool pair

Jurgen Klopp will place his faith in two Liverpool stars, judging by a new report. The Reds’ boss has a transfer plan.

The Athletic claimed yesterday that Jurgen Klopp has a transfer priority. It’s not the obvious one, however.

In fact, it’s not even the second-most obvious one.

For you’d think that the defence is at top of his list. After all, Liverpool have struggled badly with injuries all season.

Next comes midfield, given Gini Wijnaldum will almost certainly leave at the end of his contract. But that’s not it either.

Instead, Klopp is prioritising a new forward. Not a replacement for anyone – just someone to supplement his options. That’s what the boss wants.

And to us, that signifies incredible faith in two players, in particular.

Faith

If Klopp isn’t prioritising his defence, then he clearly intends to go with Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez as his primary centre-backs next season. And that’s a risk.

Neither will have played for close to a year, after all. They’re both coming back from serious knee injuries – there’s no guarantee that they’ll be at their best for some time.

In fact, there’s a good chance one or both of them suffer another injury. A Dutch surgeon warned of the ‘considerable risk’ there just this week.

Klopp appears to back them with this plan, though. He wants them to help lead a resurgence next season and we’re not sure how to take that.

On the one hand, it’s a huge risk that could spectacularly backfire.

On the other, it’s perhaps a good sign that Klopp and Liverpool are so confident in the pair. It suggests they’re well on track to full recoveries.

At the end of the day, we won’t know whether Klopp has his faith in the right place or not until the next of next season. As always, though, we’ll back his decision.

He tends to get them right.
