Awful Adama Traore form could be what Liverpool are looking for

Adama Traore is not in good form this season. But perhaps that’s exactly what Liverpool are looking for?

We’re not 100 per cent sure Liverpool want Adama Traore. Or at least, we have no reason to believe they’re about to bid.

There are links, though. Sport in Spain claim Liverpool like the player and do have interest there.

But do we actually expect the Reds to go for him? Well, one look at his form this season and the instinct is ‘no’. Traore has zero goals or assists this season.

Although, that might work in Liverpool’s favour. In fact, it could make Traore exactly what they’re looking for.

Potential

The draw with Traore is his potential. It’s blindingly obvious – he is unbelievably athletic, able to blow past players in a flash.

For a team like Liverpool, that’s a prospect to salivate over. Traore on the break? Pinning teams back? Getting to the byline for a cut-back?

He’s exactly the kind of player Jurgen Klopp works wonders with – as we said a year ago. And we know Klopp’s a fan. He called him ‘unplayable’ last season and ‘undefendable’ just this week.

Put him in Klopp’s hands and watch him mould the player into something special. And with that in mind, we go back to Traore and his awful form.

There was talk of £135m in early 2020. That Sport report claims Wolves would now accept £35m. That’s an enormous price-drop on the back of some poor displays.

The raw tools remain, though. The tools that should have Liverpool figuring out a way to sign the player.

£135m was always too much – you want a finished product for that. But £35m? Liverpool could pay that in an effort to turn Traore into a fantastic option.

The Athletic just claimed that Liverpool want ‘supplemental’ forwards, rather than stars. Traore could be exactly that. And his poor form, and resulting price-drop, opens the door.
