Fabinho returns to midfield

When Liverpool started losing centre backs last Autumn it meant a shift in personnel.

We had to move Fabinho into the back four and he was deployed there for months.

The Brazilian shone at the back, his natural defensive prowess coming to the fore again and again.

Whilst Fabby was solid in the defence, we were lacklustre on the front foot.

This week Fabinho returned to the midfield against RB Leipzig, his first game there since October.

It was a masterclass.

Peter Crouch on Fabinho

After the game fans and pundits were full of praise for Fabinho.

The Brazilian transformed our attacking play and made us look defensively solid and he was thoroughly applauded for that.

Speaking on BT Sport, Peter Crouch spoke on Fabinho, telling the show:

“It’s not beautiful to watch at times, but he’s just in the right positions at the right time.

“His touch is nice, you know, he controls the game, I think he’s always calm in possession. I think he’s done a very good job at centre-half, but the biggest miss has been him in midfield.”

What RTK has to say

Peter Crouch spoke for everybody with his analysis of Fabinho.

Though we’d argue it is beautiful to watch.

His reading of the game, his timing, his commitment – it is a joy to behold.

We need to keep him in the middle for the foreseeable, no need to drop the Bolton Baresi at the back.
