Raphael Varane is eyeing up a move for the Premier League, according to reports. Liverpool supposedly want the player.
This comes from AS. They claim that Raphael Varane wants a move away from Real Madrid, preferably to the Premier League.
The Frenchman wanted to leave a year ago but ultimately chose to stick around. Now, however, Varane wants off.
He’s got under 18 months left on his contract, too. That effectively forces Real’s hand – hanging onto him will cost them money.
You can usually assume a player is available for a cut-price deal in that scenario. With the added effects of crowd-less games making money tight anyway.
Altogether, there could be a real bargain available in Varane.
What RTK has to say
OKDiario has Liverpool down as interested in Varane. And why wouldn’t they be? Everyone should.
We’re talking about a player who has won the lot. Varane is a World Cup winner, a multiple Champions League winner and a La Liga champion.
At 27, Varane is in his prime, too. Simply put, if Liverpool want an elite centre-back, here is their no.1 option.
But we don’t know if Liverpool do want that. They may prefer to sign a cheap fourth-choice squad player this summer and continue to rely on Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
They can then put money towards a Gini Wijnaldum replacement and a much-needed forward. It might not be the choice we all want but it does make sense.

Alternatively, they could go all-out for Varane. The idea of a partnership with Van Dijk is frightening. Getting that together immediately propels Liverpool back to having the world’s best defence, in all liklihood.
But perhaps the Reds face a fight. They don’t look likely to have Champions League football next season and they could put Varane off of a move.
If he truly wants a Premier League transfer, though, the Reds must be involved.
