Liverpool are expected to be busy in this summer’s transfer window. The Reds have had their lack of squad depth thoroughly exposed this season and gaps will need to be plugged before the next campaign. It wouldn’t surprise us if another centre back arrived. Liverpool signing Raphael Varane is a no brainer if Real Madrid are looking to cash in.

Liverpool centre back issues
This season the Reds started the campaign with three centre backs.
All three have since been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign, we lost the starting two in the first couple of months.
Two backups were brought in in the January transfer window but there’s no guarantee that either player is the long term option.
When Virgil van Dijk comes back for next season he could well do so with a new partner at the back.
Uncertainty at Madrid
There is a real uncertainty at Real Madrid at the moment.
There’s no knowing just who will be in their defence next season.
The futures of Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos appear to be up in the air.
The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the season whilst Raphael Varane’s deal runs until 2022.
Meanwhile there are constant links between David Alaba and Los Blancos.
According to AS, Real Madrid are willing to consider offers for Varane depending on whether or not he signs an extension.
If they can’t tie him down then they’d rather cash in then lose him on a free, they’d allegedly want around £60m for the World Cup winner.
Liverpool should move for Raphael Varane
If he is available for just £60m then Liverpool signing Raphael Varane is surely a no brainer.
He is one of the finest centre backs in the world and he has the pace for Jürgen Klopp’s high line.
Pairing Varane with Virgil van Dijk would surely be the strongest partnership in the game.
Given that we need pace, reliability and availability then this move makes perfect sense. Fingers crossed they sign Alaba ahead of us after all.
