Liverpool have been hoovering up some of the game’s top young stars in recent years. The academy has been stacked with first class youngsters as the club looks to make the youth sides more competitive whilst also saving money down the line buy producing stars over buying them; we don’t always manage to land the youngsters we want. One teenager who turned us down in the past has said he wouldn’t do it again – Liverpool should keep tabs on Ramon Hendriks.
The Reds academy is looking incredibly promising at the moment and that is down in large part to the recruitment we’ve seen.
Germany youth captain Melkamu Frauendorf arrived last summer and he’s really starting to hit his stride in the U18s.
More recently Kaide Gordon was signed from Derby County and he just looks far too good for the U18s side.
There is also Harvey Elliott who can’t even be called an academy player these days after he was sent on loan to Blackburn Rovers where he’s been impressing.
Ramon Hendriks on Liverpool
For every youngster signed for the academy there must be a few we missed out on.
Liverpool missed out on Ramon Hendriks a few years ago.
The 19-year-old centre back is currently at NAC Breda, on loan from Feyenoord.
The youngster recently discussed turning the Reds down; telling VoetbalZone:
“That club (Feyenoord) just suits me best as a person. It was very difficult to say ‘no’ to Liverpool. I thought about the adventure but decided to choose a relatively surer path.
“I think the toughness of the Premier League would suit me well, and Liverpool would, of course, have the preference.
“I don’t think I would say ‘no’ again if they ever come forward for me.”
Liverpool should monitor Ramon Hendriks
Still just 19-years-old, this kid has plenty of his career ahead of him.
Liverpool should keep an eye on Ramon Hendriks.
He’s not burst through at Feyenoord yet but he’s impressing on loan at NAC Breda.
Given that he’s said he wouldn’t turn down an Anfield move a second time we should be keeping tabs, it’s not like we don’t need defenders.
