Liverpool have been in poor form in recent months but nobody is questioning the manager. Why would we? The boss has done an incredible job given the circumstances he’s faced this season. He will move on eventually though, Michael Beale believes Steven Gerrard could be the next Liverpool manager.
Steven Gerrard at Rangers
This season has been a terrific one for Captain Fantastic.
The Scouse icon took on the Rangers job in 2018 and has made fantastic strides towards closing the gap on local rivals Celtic.
He has done more than close the gap this season as his side looks set to win the Scottish Premiership in emphatic fashion.
The Scouser is currently 18 points clear of Celtic, the title now just a matter of playing out the remaining games.
His strong performance north of the border has led to further suggestions that he could end up in the Anfield dugout one day.
He was always a possibility given his status at the club but now he’s really starting to show he has what it takes.
Michael Beale on Steven Gerrard and Liverpool job
One man who followed Steven Gerrard to Rangers is Michael Beale.
The assistant manager was previously Head of Coaching for the Reds’ foundation phase at the academy.
He worked alongside Gerrard when the Scouser was U18s boss, now the two are working together in Glasgow.
Speaking to ESPN Brazil, Michael Beale discussed Steven Gerrard and the Liverpool job:
“I find it difficult to predict the future, you must live today and try to be the best coach possible. At the moment, Klopp is one of the five best coaches in the world, and the best coach for Liverpool is Jurgen Klopp
“I worked closely with him as an U-23 coach, and he’s fantastic for the players and his coaching staff. He’s done an incredible job so far
“In the future, if Steven Gerrard can continue to be a success, win trophies and gain experience, then it’s possible that Liverpool will be his future. But… Every coach in the world dreams of leading a team like Liverpool. So let’s see what the future brings.”
What RTK has to say
Michael Beale isn’t the only one talking about Steven Gerrard as the next Liverpool manager.
There are plenty who believe the Scouser will take the job in the future.
Whether he’s next is another matter, some believe Pep Lijnders would be better suited in order to preserve some continuity.
It would be a bold move to appoint the Scouser, we don’t want him to damage his legacy.
