Liverpool remain interested in Houssem Aouar, according to reports. The Lyon midfielder was once supposedly a priority.
This comes from Goal. Journalist Neil Jones claims Liverpool want Houssem Aouar this summer.
Jones mentions Aouar alongside Yves Bissouma as potential replacements for Gini Wijnaldum. The Dutchman’s contract ends in June, of course.
The report does say ‘among others’, though. There are other players on the shortlist, too.
But the Aouar link is the most interesting.

The Mirror claimed last summer that the Frenchman was one of Liverpool’s priority signings, alongside Timo Werner. Now, the Reds ended up with neither, of course.
We imagine Thiago was signed instead – something we can hardly regret.
As for a potential price-tag, The Telegraph had it at £54m last September. It may have risen since then but the financial outlook after this season remains difficult for every club.
What RTK has to say
We think he’s brilliant and have repeatedly expressed that. We felt he was the ideal alternative to Kai Havertz this time last year, for instance.
Beyond that, we think Aouar is a great fit for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. He’s a fantastic midfielder who’s capable of delivering a bit of everything.
So in short, we’re not surprised by this. If Liverpool can get a hold of Aouar, we imagine they’ll jump at the chance.
At 22, he could form the future of the Reds’ midfield alongside Curtis Jones. That’s got to be the plan, after all – who can play with Jones.
It all depends on the price, then. Liverpool must replace Wijnaldum with quality and Aouar is certainly that.
But if Lyon demand too high of a price, that might end any interest. He won’t be the cheapest, target, after all.
So we’ll wait and see but we’ve definitely got our fingers crossed.
