Liverpool are linked with a move for Houssem Aouar and he may be the ideal Kai Havertz alternative.
The Liverpool Echo name Aouar as a player ‘on the radar’ of Liverpool. He’s not the only one, of course. The Echo also names Havertz – a player we’ve discussed before.
In fact, we believe Havertz to be near-perfect for the Reds. He’s versatile, young, and can offer goals from midfield – something the team lack right now.
But there’s a problem. As the Echo says, Liverpool aren’t sure about the asking price and it may prove prohibitive. That’s something the Independent have mentioned before.
And if that is true, then Aouar is about as good an alternative as you can get. He’s only a year older than Havertz but has shown a similar ability to score and create from midfield.
He doesn’t quite match Havertz’s impressive goal-scoring numbers, however. The German bagged a huge 17 Bundesliga goals from midfield last season and while he hasn’t replicated that this campaign, he’s clearly got it in him.
Aouar can deliver, though. He got seven goals and seven assists last season and another three and four this season. Two years ago is was six and five.
So he’s another young, productive midfielder and exciting enough for Pep Guardiola to label ‘incredible’. Then there’s the price difference.
If Havertz is too pricey, Aouar would be a wonderful alternative, then. He’s a very gifted young player and one who Jurgen Klopp would surely nurture into a star.
