Real Madrid are open to putting Raphael Varane up for sale, according to reports. Liverpool have a golden opportunity.
This comes from the Manchester Evening News. They claim that Real Madrid are open to a Raphael Varane sale.
The Frenchman is coming up on the last 12 months of his contract, effectively forcing their hand. Real offered him a new deal – including the club captaincy – but Varane appears to want something new.
They can’t afford to lose him for free, given financial losses over the last year. The answer, then, is a sale.
One catch, of course – Manchester United apparently want him. The MEN based their report around that.
AS recently reported on this being an opportunity. They claimed it would take around £60m to get Varane, though.
And all of this should interest Liverpool. OKDiario believes the Reds want Varane but Real need to be open to it. It sounds like they might be.
What RTK has to say
If Liverpool fancy strengthening their defence, this is a golden opportunity. We’re not sure it gets any better.
We’re talking about a world-class defender who has won everything, available on a discount price. The partnership with Virgil van Dijk would be frightening.
It surely just comes down to where Liverpool want to spend their money. Do they want to spend it on a defender? We imagine they do but how much?

If the Reds just want a fourth-choice squad player, they’re not spending £60m on Varane. They’re more likely to move for someone like Aissa Mandi on a free.
Or perhaps Liverpool simply want to focus on their attack? Maybe the midfield? We’re not sure where they’ll go with it.
One thing is for sure, though. If they want to create an elite partnership in defence, the Varane opportunity is there. And it honestly might be too good to pass up.
