Liverpool have been struggling in front of goal this season. The Reds have come up against low blocks and have had their build up play impacted by the litany of injuries at the back. A summer signing is necessary. According to The Athletic, Liverpool could sign Darwin Nunez for a bargain fee.
The Reds haven’t been scoring as many goals as we expect, to put it plainly.
Jürgen Klopp’s side have been firing blanks for a number of reasons.
We’ve faced more low blocks this term than we usually come up against.
However, wasting chances has also been a common theme.
Roberto Firmino’s poor finishing ability has been thoroughly highlighted this season.
The Brazilian has failed to take a number of chances and when we’re in a fight for top four we can’t afford to waste these opportunities.
As a result many expect Liverpool to move for a striker in the summer window.
Liverpool could target Darwin Nunez
The Athletic have been analysing goal shy Jürgen’s goal shy Reds.
The outlet has come up with a number of potential solutions to the side’s number 9 problem.
Analyst Tom Worville believes Liverpool could move for Darwin Nunez; the journalist told the Ask Ornstein show:
“There’s Darwin Nunez. He’s a uruguayan international, plays for Benfica.
“He’s been getting a bit of stick in Portugal about his performances but if you look at the underlying stuff, the fancy stats, he’s playing really well.
“The goals will come. He’s the sort of player where Liverpool’s recruitment department are smart and switched on to the fact that they could get a decent deal while his stock is so low as it is now.”
What RTK has to say
Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez isn’t out of the question.
Ask David Ornstein points out, Tom Worville highlighted Kostas Tsimikas and Ozan Kabak as potential targets prior to Liverpool moving for them.
The man clearly knows his stuff so we wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Reds looked to bag a bargain with Nunez whilst he isn’t quite hitting the heights he’s capable of.
