Liverpool have had a tumultuous season with their defenders. Jürgen Klopp has used more centre back pairings than any other side; often fielding just about anyone who can walk. A centre back signing in the summer could be likely. According to reports in Algeria, Aissa Mandi wants to sign for Liverpool in the summer.
Liverpool centre back crisis
This term has been a haunted one for the centre of the Liverpool defence.
Everyone of the senior centre backs in the squad have been ruled out for the season.
As a result the midfield has been impacted by the utilisation of Fabinho and Jordan Henderson at the back.
January saw some reinforcements arrive in the form of Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak but the club may still be looking at more decisive additions in the summer.
Aissa Mandi wants Liverpool move
Just who will arrive in the summer is anybody’s guess.
Dozens of names are being touted as potential solutions to the problems at the back.
Aissa Mandi is one name perpetually linked with Liverpool.
The Real Betis centre back is out of contract at the end of the season.
La Razon this week claimed that the Reds see the Algerian as the ideal option given his contract situation.
Le Buteur have now asserted that Aissa Mandi would prefer a move to Liverpool in the summer.
The outlet has also said that the Reds tried to buy the player last summer but were unwilling to meet Betis’ £15.5m asking price.
What RTK has to say
Mandi wanting to join Liverpool makes sense.
Whilst Real Betis are having an impressive season they aren’t going to be challenging for glory anytime soon.
The Reds offer opportunity to win trophies, who wouldn’t want that?
Whether or not the 29-year-old gets his wish is another matter entirely.
