In recent years Liverpool have been steadily assembling the team of tomorrow. The Reds have recruited some of the brightest youngsters around for the youth ranks. This weekend two of our recent signings won us the Mini Derby against Everton U18s. A Premier League club’s scout was at the game and they told the Liverpool ECHO that Melkamu Frauendorf reminds them of Frank Lampard.
Liverpool sign Melkamu Frauendorf
Last summer the Liverpool signed Melkamu Frauendorf from Hoffenheim.
The Ethiopia born German youth international arrived with a burgeoning reputation.
He had captained his country at U16 level and was being chased by some of Europe’s top clubs.
The attacking midfielder took some time to settle in but he’s now dominating games in the U18 side.

Melkamu Frauendorf Frank Lampard comparison
This weekend was a good one for Liverpool FC.
The senior side, women’s side, U18s and U23s all recorded victories.
The U18s beat Everton U18s 2-1 in the Mini Derby.
Our Germany youth star opened the scoring after just 28 seconds when he blazed down the wing before putting the ball past the Toffee’s keeper following an initial save.
A scout for a Premier League rival was in attendance and he was blown away by the youngster, telling the Liverpool ECHO:
“[Melkamu Frauendorf] reminded me of Frank Lampard.
“You take your eye off him for one moment, and then he’ll appear in the box or in a dangerous area.”
What RTK has to say
Melkamu Frauendorf emulating Frank Lampard would be great for the club.
It would be even better if he emulated Steven Gerrard, of course.
Though we won’t argue if he goes on to score silly amounts of goals from midfield for the Reds.
He’s just 17-years-old at the moment so it’ll likely be a few more years before we see him make his first strides into the first team set up.
