'Superstar in the making': Pundit says it's time to 'get carried away' about Liverpool youngster

Liverpool beat Sheffield United this weekend and in doing so put an end to an awful run of form. The Reds had lost four in a row on their way to Bramall Lane, anything but a victory would’ve been a failure. Thankfully Jürgen Klopp’s men did the business. Speaking on Match of the Day 2 after the game, Danny Murphy heaped praise on Curtis Jones.

What a weekend eh.

The Reds academy were in fine form and the first team also did the business.

Heading into Sunday night’s game Liverpool had lost four in a row.

Something had to give and it finally did against the division’s bottom club.

The first half was full of chances and Roberto Firmino should’ve opened the scoring early on.

It looked as though Aaron Ramsdale was going to have a performance to remember until Curtis Jones put the Reds ahead early in the second half.

An own goal doubled the visitors’ lead after Roberto Firmino’s shot was deflected after some fine footwork.

There were a few chances for the hosts but all in all the Reds never seemed troubled.

Danny Murphy on Curtis Jones

The next Scouser in our team was the man of the match on Sunday.

Danny Murphy was certainly impressed by Curtis Jones’ display at Bramall Lane.

Murphy and Shearer were full of praise for the Scouser. Murphy told Match of the Day 2:

“He wants to get forward he’s got great energy, you can trust him defensively.

“He’s a superstar in the making. I don’t like getting carried away with youngsters but you have to with this lad he’s that good, he shows a great level of maturity. He was terrific again today.”

Danny Murphy wasn’t the only one impressed with Curtis Jones.

Just about every Kopite on the planet was made up with the young Scouser.

He is really blossoming into a Premier League footballer now.

When we are back to a fully fit squad it will be interesting to see just how highly Jürgen Klopp rates the young man.
