Liverpool have had a tumultuous season. The Reds campaign has been an absolute rollercoaster due to a series of serious injuries in the squad. The problems led to the club bringing in two new centre backs in January. Ozan Kabak showed against Sheffield United that he still has a lot to learn.

Liverpool sign Ozan Kabak

In October the unthinkable happened.

Liverpool lost Virgil van Dijk for the season when the Dutchman was clattered into by Jordan Pickford.

A few weeks later Joe Gomez joined him in being sidelined for the campaign.

Joel Matip held on as long as he could but by the end of January he was also ruled out for the duration.

This left the Reds without a recognised centre back in the senior squad.

The winter window saw two arrivals at Anfield. Ben Davies was signed from Preston North End and Ozan Kabak was brought in from Schalke.

The Turkish centre back was a long term target, the Reds placed a lot of faith in him bringing him in in February.

Liverpool beat Sheffield United

This weekend the Reds finally put an end to a run of four losses in a row.

Curtis Jones opened the scoring at Bramall Lane with the Reds dominating.

The Blades put one in their own net to put the result beyond doubt.

During the game the hosts didn’t threaten much but there were a few sights at goal.

Ozan Kabak v Sheffield United

We were lucky that we were facing the division’s bottom side.

Ozan Kabak was caught ball watching against Sheffield United.

The Turkish defender showed good recovery pace but there were a couple of occasions were he came up short in the air or he was unaware of what was around him.

Against more lethal finishers and cleverer forwards we could’ve been punished.

This weekend showed that the 20-year-old still has plenty to learn.

It is an almighty task to be thrown into the deep end in the way he has. He’ll come good eventually but we could well be in for a bumpy ride.
