Jurgen Klopp says Jordan Henderson does his new job 'perfectly'

Jurgen Klopp hailed Jordan Henderson after Liverpool beat RB Leipzig. He says the captain can now do his new job ‘perfectly’.

Liverpool got the win they desperately needed on Tuesday. They went to Budapest to take on RB Leipzig, coming away with a 2-0 win.

It almost certainly gets them passage to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, save for a dramatic collapse at Anfield.

And Liverpool pulled that off despite their make-shift team. They don’t have many defenders available, after all.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are all out long-term, while Fabinho wasn’t fit, either. That led to a repeat of Saturday’s unconventional pairing.

But Jurgen Klopp says he was impressed with both Ozan Kabak and Jordan Henderson. The latter, in fact, can play the role ‘perfectly’.

“After such a long time with Schalke, [Kabak] was new to that [a Champions League game] and I think his attitude was good,” said Klopp, per Liverpoolfc.com.

“Very happy with his performance. And Hendo can play the position perfectly.

“It’s not that Leipzig didn’t have a chance, Ali also had to intervene in two or three things, but that’s normal. Overall, I can say I’m very pleased with the whole performance.”

What RTK has to say

We loved Henderson’s performance and said as much in our ‘5 things we learned‘.

The captain is playing a brand new position in big games and alongside unnatural partners. Sometimes it’s Fabinho, another midfield, and now it’s Kabak.

So Henderson commanded a defence alongside a 20-year-old he met two weeks ago. We think that’s extraordinary.

To do it in such a high-pressure game, too, just makes it even more impressive.

Henderson deserves a ton of praise for his performances in recent weeks, even if the results haven’t followed through. He’s somehow found another way to prove people wrong.
