Bayern Munich still expect Liverpool to compete for Dayot Upamecano this summer. That’s according to CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Bayern Munich are under the impression that Liverpool still want Dayot Upamecano. Thei CEO, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge seems to think so, anyway.
“There are still at least two attractive competitors with Bayern Munich [for Upamecano],” he said, per Sky Germany. Then he named both Liverpool and Chelsea.
“The fact is that the player is interesting.”

Per the same Sky Germany article, Upamecano will be up for grabs with a £39m release clause this summer. And you get quite a lot for that money.
You get a centre-back who can play multiple systems and who is a natural athlete – essential for top clubs looking to play with a high-line.
But he’s also only 22. There’s enormous room for potential and Upamecano is already brilliant.
He’s four years of elite top-flight experience despite his age and he made the ESM Team of the Year for 19/20 – the only non-Liverpool defender to do so.
There’s a reason we have him down as far and away the best-value defender on the market.
Now, Liverpool did sign two defenders on Monday evening – do they even have room for Upamecano?
The answer is yes. They can easily make it.
Ozan Kabak arrives on a loan deal with an option to buy. If Liverpool decide they can get Upamecano instead, all they have to do is left the Turkey international return to Schalke.
Then they instantly have the space for Upamecano.
Given the competition, there’s a good chance they won’t get the Frenchman, of course. Both Bayern and Chelsea will be great destinations for him to be the no.1 defender – something he’ll struggle to be with Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk is coming back eventually, after all.
This is certainly one to watch, though. Liverpool aren’t done with defenders just yet.
