The reported Dayot Upamecano price puts every other rumoured Liverpool target to shame. If the Reds can pull it off, there’s no one else to consider.
Goal claims that Dayot Upamecano has a £39m price as a result of a release clause. Now, it only comes into effect this summer but the fact remains – you can secure him in 2021 for £39m.
And that price is potentially incredible value if you can pull it off. Sportbild claimed that Liverpool had interest in it way back at the start of the season.
Who could blame Liverpool? Upamecano is still only 22 but has years of experience in both the Bundesliga and Champions League.
He’s performing wonderfully, already, too. He was the only non-Liverpool player to make the ESM Team of the Year, for instance.
Compare that to other players linked with Liverpool.
Better than the rest
Take Ozan Kabak. He’s reportedly available for £22.5m, per the Athletic, and Liverpool like him.
You’re getting a 20-year-old with great potential, certainly. But there are so many questions around him. He’s never played consistent Champions League football, never reached the heights of Upamecano, nor has he got years of experience in a top five European league.
Whereas £39m for Upamecano feels like a bargain, £22.5m for Kabak feels like a risk.
Then take Merih Demiral. Fanatik say Liverpool want him but he’d cost around £45m.
He’s the same age as Upamecano but has never played a full top-flight season for the same club. Needless to say, Demiral can’t match the Frenchman’s accomplishments.
These are just two examples but you can search far and wide – there isn’t anything that matches £39m for Upamecano. Hopefully, Liverpool can get that done in 2021 because there doesn’t seem to be any other transfer like it.
